System and Network Administrator

Description
Bowman Systems L.L.C. seeks a Systems and Network Administrator for working with web-based database systems delivering services in an Application Service Provider environment. Bowman Systems develops and markets the most trusted, secure and comprehensive web-based software, and as such, we require a dedicated professional for this position.

This individual will be responsible for configuring and maintaining various computer systems and network hardware, including but not limited to systems running FreeBSD, Linux, and Microsoft Server Operating Systems and Cisco networking equipment.

The person hired for this position will be tasked with a broad spectrum of duties including overall systems administration, configuration, and troubleshooting. Network management includes monitoring, security, and troubleshooting.

This individual will work directly under the Director of IT. A strong work ethic with a strong emphasis on professionalism, teamwork, communication and collaboration is essential. This individual will have strong interaction with other departments in the company that will require strong interpersonal skills and good written communication. This individual will be part of a 24-hour on-call rotation (approximately one-week out of every 3-4 weeks)

Position:
The Systems and Network Administrator is a full-time position with a competitive salary and benefits.

Education and Typical Years of Experience:
Bachelor degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems such as FreeBSD and Linux
  • Knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol, firewalling, routing, and IP subnetting
  • Perl and Shell Scripting
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to think quickly and offer alternatives
  • Organized, goal oriented, motivated self-starter who can work well in a team environment

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of various SQL databases including Microsoft SQL server, MySQL, and PostegreSQL and SQL language
  • Knowledge of Apache/ModSSL
  • Knowledge of web application environments such as PHP, ColdFusion, JSP, ASP, or PERL
  • Experience with Dell-based server hardware and Cisco-based network hardware
  • Experience using Microsoft SQL tools - Enterprise Manager, Query Analyzer
  • Previous team-working experience
